The Mystery of the Holy Grail – Part 1. Sacred Water

The Holy Grail is subject to numerous myths and legends, which makes serious research into this relic very difficult. Traditionally, the Holy Grail is thought to be the cup that Jesus Christ drank from at the famous Last Supper which is the same cup that the holy disciple Joseph of Arimathea used to collect the blood of Jesus at his crucifixion and who assumed responsibility for the burial of Jesus after his death. The Holy Grail has been a Christian relic of mystery and fascination for many centuries for many searchers who believed the Grail had miraculous healing powers. The Grail played an important role in Arthurian tales and it is said that the first Knights Templar were sent to the Holy land to search for it on Temple Mount during the crusades. They were all searching for an existing physical Christian relic because of the etymological meaning of the word “Grail” or “Gradale” in Latin, and that was supposedly designed and shaped like a magical cup, dish, chalice, goblet or even a stone.

A number of locations have become associated with the Holy Grail, like Glastonbury (ancient Avalon), Montségur, Rosslyn Chapel and numerous places in the “Holy Land” and the Middle East with no results so far. Countless travellers, researchers, scientists, historians and archaeologists are still on a never-ending quest for this mythical relic. If it had ever been found, it would never remain secret in today’s society of money and power. Is it a sacred physical object or is it a sacred Christian symbol, associated with Jesus Christ, that we seek? Maybe we need to change the terms and objectives of this search and accept the possibility that there is no physical Holy Grail at all. By changing the parameters of this quest, we might come to different conclusions. There is something else that forms an invisible connection between all these highly honoured sacred locations on Earth which might be the key to finding the true meaning of the Holy Grail.

In general, it is assumed that the Holy Grail, as an object or symbol, is strongly related to the “Holy Blood” of Jesus Christ. The word Grail, earlier spelled as ‘Graal’, originates from Old French “Graal”, “Greal” or “Grazal” and refers to various types of vessels in different old French and Spanish dialects. In the 15th century, the English writer John Hardyng suggested that the word Holy Grail originated from the Old French word “San-Graal” or “San-Gréal” which later became “Sang Real”, meaning “Royal Blood.” This etymology became popular and prominent in various literary works of which some were labelled as a conspiracy theory. Yet I believe that the Holy Grail can be symbolically connected to the blood of Jesus Christ and this blood can metaphorically be connected to the sacred water of the Earth.

“There is something else that forms an invisible connection between all these highly honoured sacred locations on Earth which might be the key to finding the true meaning of the Holy Grail”

The blood and blood vessels of Jesus Christ could be a metaphor for the blood and blood vessels of the Earth “created by God” whereby the Earth’s blood and blood vessels are equal to the Earth’s sacred primary water and water lines deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The crossings of these sacred water lines were most probably indicated by means of prehistoric stone circles which were in use from the late Neolithic to the end of the early Bronze Age. This mineral-rich sacred healing water, available through wells and springs flowing from a deep aquifer to the Earth’s surface, was of great importance to early man for a number of reasons. Its purity and the supposed healing effect of this primary water was crucial in every-day life and the exact locations of these holy springs were therefore sometimes very well hidden and protected against collapse and destruction by means of a kind of reinforced structure around the well.

The Holy Grail

At a later stage in history during the early Middle Ages, important and mostly sacred monuments were erected right above these ancient wells and springs. Famous cathedrals like for instance Winchester Cathedral and Chartres in France were built on top of holy springs which were situated in the ancient underground crypts of these cathedrals. These ancient crypts often predate the current cathedrals, churches, castles and monuments built upon them. Worldwide, there are still thousands of these ancient sacred springs that were honoured by imposing or simple monuments and sometimes they are just hidden in the landscape. All over the world they were honoured for their pure healing water and considered the ultimate gift of their god who gave his “blood” for the existence of man on Earth. “Holy Blood – Holy Water.” The Christian religious ceremony of baptism or christening could perhaps also be traced back to the use of this sacred water by which a person is initiated, purified, given a name or making a commitment to God. It is plausible that a baptismal font should also be filled with water from a nearby holy well.

Many searched in vain for the Holy Grail and the “Elixir of Life” or “Elixir of Immortality” that was drunk from the Holy Grail and sometimes equated with the “Philosopher’s Stone.” Many searched in vain and probably never realised that these sacred relics could be found right under their feet in a completely different form. For several millennia, this holy water has been honoured, used and drunk without realising that this could very well be the long-sought “Holy Grail of the Earth” as metaphorically transferred to us by the Son of God. In the absence of physical evidence of such a relic, this seems a good option in the line of human history. This pure healing water is the substance which connects the well-being of prehistoric, medieval and modern man without the interference of religion. For me, that is the only true Elixir of Life drunk from the Holy Grail; the sacred water from the Earth.

God, our Sun, the creator and its creation: his son Jesus Christ, the Earth, in which the “Blood of Christ” is a metaphor for the primary healing water deep under the Earth’s surface that invisibly connects everything and everyone on Earth since the beginning of times. Prehistoric man was already very familiar with this God-given phenomenon but over the course of time, the historical importance of this connecting layer of pure and healing water has been watered down. For me personally, this remains the most plausible hypothesis for the true meaning of the Holy Grail and its Elixir of Life. Regardless of religious belief, it has always been here and it will always be here as a significant part of our Earth.
