Tutankhamun's Death Mask

The pharaoh represented the gods on Earth and was therefore depicted with the characteristics (mane and tail) of the Lion which was associated with Amun, the ‘King of Gods’, member of the eight primordial deities worshipped in Hermopolis called the Ogdoad and who, as the composed deity Amun-Ra, was portrayed as a red-eyed man with a lion’s head.
